In the Light of 1260-61/1844-45 Dividend Records Social and Economic Structure of Ahmedadı̇l Village in Kalecı̇k Kaza of Ankara Province

Abstract

In this study, the social and economic situation of the village of Ahmedadil, which was connected to the town of Kalecik in Ankara Province in the year 1260-1261 / 1844-1845 AH, has been tried to be revealed in the light of the records in the dividend book numbered 16287 registered in the Ottoman Archive of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, Directorate of State Archives. As it is understood from the records in the temettuat book of the village, the main source of livelihood of the heads of households living in Ahmedadil village, which has a total of 36 households and an average population of 180 people, is based on agriculture, animal husbandry and trade. The main agricultural products cultivated in Ahmedadil village during the period we are studying are wheat, barley, vetch, rye, chickpea and rice, and horticulture is also practised. In the field of animal husbandry, it is understood that small cattle, cattle and beasts of burden were raised. When we look at the occupational groups in the village, it is reflected in the records that most of the households were agriculturalists (farmers). In addition to these professions, there were also those who earned their living as labourers, servants, shepherds and imams. The demographic structure of the village, the names and nicknames used by the heads of households in the village, and the agricultural, livestock and occupational incomes of the household owners in the village were also available from the records in the temettuat book, which is the source of our study. In addition, the amount of cultivated and cultivated lands in the village and the types of taxes that households were obliged to pay to the state were also revealed and the tax burden of the inhabitants was also determined. At the end of our study, the total annual dividend income of the households in the village is given in detail on a household basis.
